POINT OF VIEW

There is a simple saying in Japanese that epitomizes the nature of striving for excellence, “Ue ni was ue ga aru.” It translates literally to, “Above up, there is something even higher above up.” In essence, it speaks to both the nature of human ambition (our rational sensibility) – our need to be better than the rest, and to the nature of the human condition (our emotional sensibility) – our need to connect and feel understood. As it relates to brand, finding the points at which rational and emotional sensibilities intersect is my driving force, and what I consider to be the role of brand.

APPROACH

Curiosity and instinct fuel my philosophy, as well as represent the building blocks of my approach.  Researching the old in order to understand the present. Exploring the present in order to design the future. Letting data, research, and intuition drive discovery.

I think about what motivates people to do what they do. I break down complex ideas into simple brand truths, frameworks and narratives that enable broad understanding, and inspire action. Ultimately, I strive to incite desire, create value and demonstrate category leadership, enabling both brand and consumer to recognize new and powerful aspects of themselves and each other.

But I can’t and don’t do my job alone. It is my experience that collaboration, teamwork and communication produce the best outcomes – you know, the ones that keep bottom lines and humans growing.
